Relativement peu de modifications ont \u00e9t\u00e9 n\u00e9cessaires pour adapter le groupe 205 T16 aux rigueurs de la longue course de distance \u00e0 travers certains des terrains les plus perfides du monde. L'effort pay\u00e9 avec dos \u00e0 dos victoires Paris-Dakar en 1987 et 1988. Peugeot a \u00e9galement conclu un 205 en 1987 Pikes Peak Hill Climb mais face une forte opposition de l'ancien rival du Groupe B Audi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L'un des quelques probl\u00e8mes avec la tr\u00e8s sophistiqu\u00e9e 205 T16 \u00e9tait son empattement relativement court. Ce ne posait aucun probl\u00e8me sur les stades serr\u00e9s et sinueux de la plupart des rassemblements, mais au cours des sauts dans le Dakar ou long, coins de Pikes Peak enroulement, il n'a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 id\u00e9al. Les ing\u00e9nieurs de Peugeot initialement abord\u00e9 la question par l'allongement de l'empattement de la conception existante, mais cela n'a pas fait les proportions des compacts 205 des faveurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une solution apparemment beaucoup plus drastique a \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9 en 1988; drapant le corps du plus 405 sur le train 205 en cours d'ex\u00e9cution. En raison de la nature de la machine de rallye de ce ne fut pas aussi compliqu\u00e9 que cela puisse para\u00eetre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au c\u0153ur de la T16 205 conservait la coquille de base de la voiture de route, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 bas\u00e9 sur, que ce soit avec l'extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 arri\u00e8re coup\u00e9e. Ici, le ch\u00e2ssis est compos\u00e9e d'une sous-trame construite \u00e0 cet effet, qui a log\u00e9 le moteur et la bo\u00eete de vitesses. Sur la \u00abnouvelle\u00bb 405 T16, la section entre la coque et le faux a \u00e9t\u00e9 allong\u00e9 pour am\u00e9liorer le traitement et \u00e9galement pour permettre des r\u00e9servoirs de carburant plus grands. Ce ch\u00e2ssis r\u00e9vis\u00e9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9quip\u00e9 de nouveaux panneaux de Kevlar et du corps en fibre de carbone qui ressemblaient de pr\u00e8s le nez et la queue du 405. Une nette diff\u00e9rence a \u00e9t\u00e9 l'absence des portes arri\u00e8re par rapport \u00e0 la voiture de route, qui \u00e9tait seulement disponible en berline ou d'une station et wagon, et non un coup\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T16 dans le type \u00e9tait une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au moteur\u202f; un moteur \u00e0 quatre cylindres turbocompress\u00e9 avec un total de 16 soupapes. Avec les restrictions de d\u00e9placement du groupe B ne demande, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u00e9g\u00e8rement agrandie pour un peu plus de 1,9 litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans la sp\u00e9cification de longue distance, le moteur de cette 'XU 9T' a produit environ 400 ch. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 accoupl\u00e9 \u00e0 une bo\u00eete de vitesses manuelle \u00e0 six vitesses et un syst\u00e8me de traction int\u00e9grale Ferguson. Cette vedette un diff\u00e9rentiel central conducteur r\u00e9glable qui contr\u00f4le la quantit\u00e9 de puissance envoy\u00e9e aux roues avant et arri\u00e8re.
